Hi, My name is Nivedita Bhandari and I am 29 years old. I had a serious car accident 4.5 years back when I went into coma for 3 months. When I came out of coma, my knees could not bend at all. The doctors had inserted rods in both my thighs but those lead to a slow infection which spread through my thighs and hips.
The doctors removed the rod but the infection continued. They were unable to diagnose what was causing the problems and started giving me anti tubercular medicines. They did multiple I&D’s (Incision and Drainage) but it did not work. Finally when they did cut open, they saw that all the muscles were dead. They did debridement and took some skin from my calves and closed my thighs, but during the surgery they damaged a nerve which led to a foot drop.
I also had acute kidney failure 3 yrs back. That is now fixed after 8 dialysis sessions, but I still get occasional stones and also repeated UTI infection. I have had blood transfusion a number of times. My veins often cannot be found, and doctors have had to do multiple incisions for the CV line.
Due to the lack of muscles, weak bones, and the foot drop, I cannot stand at all. I have been in bed since January of 2007.
TO STAND BACK ON MY FEET, I NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET TO GET MYSELF OPERATED.

Latest Update 23rd Jan 2009 :- I am now going to try Ayurvedic massage treatment to rejuvenate my muscles and then if still the muscles are not ample enough may have to have a temporary replacement done to relive the pain in the left hip. But that can be disastrous as it can lead to more complications. So hoping the Ayurveda treatment helps as I still have a number of surgeries to go through other then the hip replacement so that I can walk and stand on my feet again....So please help all you can and also forward this appeal to as many people as possible as I still need at the least 20 lakh rupees ASAP.
